Tomorrow begins the Peace and Meditation show at the Shina Gallery in Kyoto, Japan. It’s a collaborative show between Yasu Suzuka, Judy Umana, Rulo, and myself. It will be happening from October 26th to November 29. The Gallery itself is of a traditional Japanese style built a couple of hundred years ago. It is tucked in behind an old Obi(wide belts worn with kimonos) factory. So it’s quite interesting and mysterious to walk all the way through to the gallery itself. The show is a mix of photography and mixed medium animation. I think its quite a unique experience to see, so please come check it out!
Here is a clip of some rough animation that will be in the show. This animation was first drawn on paper, then I used cut out animation on top of the drawings. I actually used 2 elephant models to create a boiling texture on the surface. So every frame there is a different elephant, and you can see the surface come to life. The legs and nose I animated by bending and folding the paper in the way that elephant skin folds and bends.
